The Loudest Playoff Environment in the NBA
TRANSCRIPT:
Jase Chilcoat, ThunderVision Producer/ Director: My journey feels like a long one. I feel like I was prepared for all the turns and Oklahoma State was awesome. And it was a moment of, you know, God had me at that time. I went to Oklahoma State and played football and fortunately had a lot of really caring and considerate professors who stayed by, after hours and really took care of me, taught me a whole bunch of stuff, one on one. And I was able to be knowledgeable enough about the studio side of sports to feel confident heading into an internship with the Tulsa Drillers and Tulsa Roughnecks FC. And, worked up to be a video production manager. At about the time I was planning to move back home to Oklahoma City, there was a video production manager position here at the Thunder. I would say I put the things on the board. To go more in depth I would just say that I have the opportunity to look at all the cameras, all the angles, all the graphics, to know and to put ourselves from a Thunder Vision perspective in the best situation, to speak for the fans. We love for the fans to be mirrored by what's on the video board. And so I would tell them that I have the opportunity to bring the whole show together to hopefully emulate how you're feeling as a fan.

During the game nights, I direct the show from the control room perspective. I'm on comm with the, 30 or 40 voices in my head. We have expression, our CG, we have three channels of CG. We have a switcher, we have a control room director. We have four replay operators, two robo cam operators, two or three engineers that have different areas of focus throughout the control room. A click effects operator, cam shader, just our internal show has nine cameras. We also have three DAK operators that control all of our secondary boards.

Adam Hildebrant: Jase had always known that a career in media might treat him well and at one point considered becoming a sports broadcaster. But it was right here in the control room at the Paul Miller SMSC where he first connected with his future role.
Jase Chilcoat: The first memory that I have about a lab was Jack Hodgson's class. And I remember absolutely hating it and thinking I was going to run far away after that. I was put on the switcher. Unbeknownst to me, I can remember Jack saying, all right, Fade in CG here. That was the first time I've ever heard those words. And I said, fade in, CG, And I looked at the whole board in front of me and thought, one day I'm going to know what that means. Oklahoma State taught me it's okay to fail, and you should fail in the studio space with your peers in front of everybody, so we can all grow from it and we can all learn from it.
After the game. The post game meeting is one of the most important things that we do, and it's where I can stand up in front of the staff and be accountable.
I think it's important for people to hear that from me, that, hey, I'm the first one to tell you that I was slow on that or I pulled the wrong trigger to make that come to life. If we ever have somebody messing up and I say, hey, what happened there, guys? And it's silent, then I know we have a cultural problem.
(Background) Everything just felt so coordinated every time I glanced out there. We're just doing a lot of really good stuff.
I think it was just my love for the adrenaline of sports that kind of carried me through learning the backside of studio, learning what happens behind the camera, behind all the servers and everything that, all come together to build the moment for the fans. I love sports so much. I love how difficult it is to put together a perfect game as a competitor. And I think there were a lot of times where I love the struggle of putting all the pieces together to make a perfect show.
